Chapter 31.4, Problem 1CC
Summary Introduction

To identify: The feature that links chytrids as a member of basal fungal lineages.

Concept introduction:

A “chytrid” is a type of fungus that comes under (Phylum Chytridiomycota) and is found in lakes, soil, hydrothermal vents, and in other marine communities. They are pervasive in land and soil and species such as Chytriomyces have globular fruiting body and forms the multicellular branched hyphae while some of them are unicellular. The presence of the flagellated spores in chytrids is the molecular proof that chytrid lineages have diverged from the fungal evolution.
