Spontaneous or induced damage to cells causes mutations. The mutations in genes that regulate the cell growth either by inhibiting or promoting, result in abnormal uncontrolled growth. The accumulation of these mutations leads to cancer. It can also be influenced by environmental factors, such as exposure to chemical carcinogens, radiations, and certain viruses.
