Concept explainers
Concept introduction:
Blood is a fluid connective tissue that is composed of blood plasma and formed elements. It has about 45% of formed element and 55 % of blood plasma. The formed elements of the blood mainly include three components, namely erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets. Erythrocytes or red blood cells contain oxygen-carrying protein called as haemoglobin. The leukocytes or white blood cells are of two types such as granular lymphocytes and agranular lymphocytes. The granular lymphocytes include neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils. The agranular lymphocytes are of two types, namely lymphocytes and monocytes. Platelets or thrombocytes are tiny blood cells that help in blood clotting during external injury.
