Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: Under the given conditions, maximum non-expansion work per mole of methane has to be calculated.

Concept introduction: The Gibbs free energy is the energy associated with the chemical reaction that is used to describe whether a chemical reaction is spontaneous or not.  The non-expansion work obtained from the reaction at constant pressure and temperature is equal to the change in standard Gibbs free energy of reaction.  The standard Gibbs free energy at constant temperature is expressed by thermodynamic equation, which relates the standard Gibbs free energy of reaction, standard entropy of reaction and standard reaction enthalpy.
