Concept explainers
Suppose you shoot an arrow across a ravine at the vertical cliff opposite you. a distance d away. as shown in Figure 3.30. On your first try, you aim your arrow 15° above the horizontal, directly toward point A; it strikes the cliff at a distance h below point A. On your next try. you aim the arrow 15° below the horizontal, toward point B, shooting it with the same speed. Will the second arrow strike the cliff (a) the same distance h below point B, (b) less than the distance h below point B, or (c) more than the distance h below point B?

- A fish jumps out of the water with a speed of 1.4 m / s and angle θ = 45 ∘ with the horizontal. What is the speed of the fish at the highest point on its trajectory?arrow_forwardA student standing on a cliff that is a vertical height d= 25 ft above the level ground throws a stone with velocity v0= 73 ft/s at an angle θ = 25 ° below horizontal. The stone moves without air resistance; use a Cartesian coordinate system with the origin at the stone's initial position. 1).With what speed, vf in feet per second, does the stone strike the ground? 2).arrow_forwardHow would I find the velocity of a basketball that is shot from 15 feet away and at a hoop 10 feet high? - Please do help me with this please. It is a physics question. Please, i promise to give a perfect feedback to you.arrow_forwardA 1.6m-tall basketball player tries to shoot a ball at an angle of 45° to a basketball ring that is 20 m away and 3 m above the ground. If she throws the ball directly over her head, at what speed should she shoot the ball to score? His friend, Josh, caught the ball from a window at a distant building that is 40.0 [?] off the ground. Josh then released the ball from this height and let the ball fall to the ground. What is the speed of the ball just before it reaches Josh? ____ [?/?] What is the speed of the ball just before it reaches the ground? ____ [?/?]arrow_forwardAn Orc archer below a 54 meter high tower (different height from the wall from problem 3) fires his crossbow at 45 m/s at a 53.1 degree angle from horizontal. What is the closest that the orc can stand to the tower to exactly hit a target on the top of the tower? What is the farthest that the orc can stand to the tower to exactly hit a target on the top of the tower? What is the highest point (above the tower, not the ground!) that the orc’s arrow can reach firing at this velocity and angle?arrow_forward

The bazooka is on your shoulder, 1.7 m above the ground. You aim the m gun 30° above the horizontal and the big, foam projectile leaves the gun with an initial velocity of 31 You accidentally aim the bazooka at a tree that is a horizontal distance of 23 m away. How long does it take for the projectile to hit the tree? How high (above the ground) in the tree does the projectile get stuck? hfinal %D Imagine you were more clever and aimed into an empty field with no obstructions. You can control how fast the projectile leaves the gun by pumping more times or fewer times (more pumps = faster projectile). What are TWO ways you could increase the amount of time that the projectile is in the air?arrow_forward
