Proteins consist of a chain of amino acids called polypeptide. There are 20 different amino acids in proteins which are coded by organisms’ DNA. Protein structure is considered to contain four structural level: primary, secondary, tertiary structure, and quaternary structures.

Explanation of Solution

The β-sheet is a secondary structure of the protein. This is formed by hydrogen bonding between the N-H and C=O groups in the polypeptide backbone. It can be arranged in a helical pattern to form helix. The axial distance between two amino acids in beta sheet is 3.5 Å. There are two amino acids repeat unit which give β strand a 7 Å pitch.

Hence, the statement is true.
