Interpretation:
To calculate the density of the metal when the solid metallic object is dropped into a graduated cylinder that contains 25.00 mL of water. The volume increases to 37.25 mL. The mass of the object is 96 grams. Use the definition of density as mass/volume.
Concept introduction:
The significant figures are also known as the significant digits. It is the uncertainty associate with the measurement by rounding the results. Moreover the significant figures are defined in a number of the digits with certainty and first uncertain digit. The measurement is a characteristic number to the object or event that can be compared with other object. The scope of the measurement depends upon the context and event. Measurement is commonly used as the international system of unit as a comparison framework. The system defines seven fundamental units like kilogram, meter, candela, ampere, kelvin and mole. The metric system is a decimal system of the measurement based on the units for the length, meter, the mass, the kilogram. It exists in the several forms with different choices of the basic units. The metric system indicates the single basic unit for the number of physical quantities. Other quantities are derived from the SI units.

In liters? In cubic meters? In cubic decimeters?arrow_forwardA solution is prepared by dissolving table salt, sodium chloride, in water at room temperature. a Assuming there is no significant change in the volume of water during the preparation of the solution, how would the density of the solution compare to that of pure water? b If you were to boil the solution for several minutes and then allow it to cool to room temperature, how would the density of the solution compare to the density in part a? c If you took the solution prepared in part a and added more water, how would this affect the density of the solution?arrow_forward
- Suppose a room is 18 m long, 15 m wide, and the distance from floor to ceiling is 2.9 m. What is the room’s volume in cubic meters? In cubic centimeters? In liters?arrow_forwardMolecular distances are usually given in nanometers (1 nm = 1 109 m) or in picometers (1 pm = 1 1012 m). However, the angstrom () unit is sometimes used, where 1 = 1 1010 m. (The angstrom unit is not an SI unit.) If the distances between the Pt atom and the N atom in the cancer chemotherapy drug cisplatin is 1.97 , What is this distances in nanometers? In picometers?arrow_forwardA sample of a bright blue mineral was weighed in air, then weighed again while suspended in water. An object is buoyed up by the mass of the fluid displaced by the object. In air, the mineral weighed 7.35 g; in water, it weighed 5.40 g. The densities of air and water are 1.205 g/L and 0.9982 g/cm3, respectively. What is the density of the mineral?arrow_forward

Calculate the volume of the acid solution (in mL) you need to supply 125 g of sulfuric acid.arrow_forwardAlthough the preferred SI unit of area is the square meter, land is often measured in the metric system in hectares (ha). One hectare is equal to 10,000 m2. In the English system, land is often measured in acres (1 acre = 160 rod2). Use the exact conversions and those given in Exercise 47 to calculate the following. a. 1 ha = __________ km2 b. The area of a 5.5-acre plot of land in hectares, square meters, and square kilometers c. A lot with dimensions 120 ft by 75 ft is to be sold for 6500. What is the price per acre? What is the price per hectare?arrow_forwardGold leaf, which is used for many decorative purposes, is made by hammering pure gold into very thin sheets. Assuming that a sheet of gold leaf is 1.27 105 cm thick, how many square feet of gold leaf could be obtained from 28.35 g gold? The density of gold is 19.3 g/cm3.arrow_forward
