Chapter 3, Problem 12R
How many lighting branch circuits are provided in this dwelling? __________
- a. What is the minimum load allowance for small-appliance circuits for dwellings? See NEC 220.52(A). __________
- b. An individual 15-ampere branch circuit is run to the receptacle outlet behind the refrigerator instead of connecting it to one of the two 20-ampere small-appliance branch circuits that are required in kitchens. For this separate circuit, an additional 1500 volt-amperes (shall) (does not have to) be added to the load calculations for dwellings. (Circle the correct answer.)

2. Imagine that you're asked to install an auxiliary grounding electrode at the base of a lighting pole in aparking lot. This auxiliary grounding electrode will be connected to theA. lighting pole's electrical service equipment grounding conductor.B. electrical service's grounding electrode conductor.C. next lighting pole's auxiliary grounding electrode.D. lighting pole's neutral conductor.
Two of the circuits will be a 3-wire, multi-wire branch circuit (Edison 3-wire). The location of the devices is to be determined by the student. The student shall be responsible for selecting the correct circuits, do not ask the instructor which circuit number should be used.
Circuit A. One lampholder and one duplex receptacle controlled by a Single Pole Switch.
Circuit B. Single Pole Switch controlling the top half of a duplex receptacle that when energized, is indicated by a Pilot-light at the Single Pole Switch location; plus an Isolated Ground Duplex Receptacle that is always hot.
Circuit C. The bottom half of the switched receptacle on Circuit ‘B’ is to be always hot; plus another Duplex Receptacle that is controlled from two locations using a Coast 3-Way wiring-system.
