Fertilizing Winter Wheat. Guidelines for the amount of supplementary nitrogen needed to grow winter wheat depend on the amount of nitrogen in the soil (as determined by a soil test), the price of fertilizer, and the price of wheat at harvest. Suppose the soil on a particular farm has a nitrogen content of 2 ppm (parts per million) and 50 acres will be planted in wheat. Consider two pricing scenarios.
• Case A: The price of fertilizer is $0.25/lb, the price of wheat is $3.50/bushel, and the expected yield is 60 bushels/acre.
• Case B: The price of fertilizer is $0.50/1b, the price of wheat is $4.50, and the expected yield is 50 bushels/acre.
In Case A, the guidelines recommend adding 100 pounds of nitrogen per acre, and, in Case B, 70 lbs of nitrogen should be added per acre.
Assuming all other factors are equal, compute and compare the net profit (income minus expenses) for the two scenarios.

- A manufacturer produces two models of television stands. The table at the left shows the times (in hours) required for assembling, staining, and packaging the two models. The total times available for assembling, staining, and packaging are 3750 hours, 8950 hours, and 2650 hours, respectively. The profits per unit are $30 for model I and $40 for model II. What is the optimal inventory level for each model? What is the optimal profit?arrow_forward4. The Metropolitan Company sells its latest product at a unit price of $2. - Suppose that a firm can produce a part it uses for $520 per unit, with a fixed cost of $25,000. The company has been offered a contract from a supplier that allows it to purchase the part at a cost of $544 per unit, which includes transportation. The key outputs in the model are the difference in these costs and the decision that results in the lower cost. Assume that the production volume is uncertain. Suppose the manufacturer has enough data and information to estimate that the production volume will be normally distributed with a mean of 1,000 and a standard deviation of 85. Use a 100-trial Monte Carlo simulation to find the average cost difference and percent of trials that result in manufacturing or outsourcing as the best decision. Please include table showing both the cost difference and decision for each trial. - A tennis racquet manufacturer is negotiating a lease on land to build a manufacturing plant. The price charged will be determined by p = $450 – (0.1)D per tennis racquet. Themanufacturer faces variable costs of $25 per tennis racquet. Fixed costs of manufacturingare currently $25,000, in addition to the value of the lease being negotiated.a. Assume that each immigrant who is allowed to enter the United States and has the disease costs the country $100,000. Also, assume that each immigrant who is allowed to enter the United States and does not have the disease will contribute $10,000 to the national economy. Finally, assume that x percent of all potential immigrants have the disease. The U.S. government can choose to admit all immigrants, admit no immigrants, or test immigrants for the disease before determining whether they should be admitted. It costs T dollars to test a person for the disease, and the test result is either positive or negative. A person who does not have the disease always tests negative. However, 10% of all people who do have the disease test negative. The government’s goal is to maximize the expected net financial benefits per…arrow_forward
