Introduction:

The cerebral cortex continuously receives information, but only a part of it is stored as memory. The memory of an individual is formed in stages. The short-term memory holds only a small amount of information and it lasts for seconds to hours whereas the long-term memory stores a large amount of information for a long period of time.
