The difference between virus, viroid, and prion.
Introduction:
There is a common thread between these three classes of organisms as all the three: viruses, viroids, and prions are microscopic, infectious particles. Viruses are composed of genetic material DNA or RNA along with a protein capsid and in some instances a lipid envelope. Viroids are circular single stranded RNA molecules known as smallest pathogens.
They affect several plants. Prions refer to infectious particles composed of proteins that can undergo multiple folding patterns and are capable of causing infectious diseases. The name prion is derived from proteinaceous infectious particle. It is an agent that does not depend on genes that involve RNA or DNA for transmission.
