Nitrogen is a mineral and also a crucial constituent of the bodies of all the living organisms as the nitrogen atoms are present in DNA and all proteins. Nitrogen occurs in many forms. In addition, it is cycled continuously by a wide range of bacteria. The cycling of nitrogen in various forms is considered as a complex process and it involves five steps. They are nitrogen fixation, nitrification, assimilation, ammonification, and denitrification.
