Menstruation, often known as a period, refers to vaginal bleeding that happens once a month as part of a woman's reproductive cycle. The female body gets ready to become pregnant every month as the ovaries release the egg. The uterus developed a thick layer to prepare for pregnancy and loses its lining in the absence of pregnancy. The blood that comes out during menstruation is made up of both blood and uterine tissue. Through the vagina, it leaves the body.
