Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The structure of geranylgeranyl diphosphate is to be given and further a mechanism for its biosynthesis from farnesyl diphosphate and isopentenyl diphosphate is to be proposed.
Concept introduction:
The biosynthesis of geranylgeranyl dipoosphate (GGPP) from farnesyl diphosphate (FPP)and isopentenyl diphosphate(IPP) involves the attack of the double bond of IPP on FPP to produce a carbocation eliminating the diphosphate ion which is followed by deprotonation.
To give:
The structure of geranylgeranyl diphosphate and to propose a mechanism for its biosynthesis from farnesyl diphosphate and isopentenyl diphosphate.
