The steps involved in the synthesis of stearolic acid from 1-decyne and 1-chloro-7-iodoheptane are i) Removal of the acidic hydrogen of the alkyne by a base ii) Nucleophilic displacement of the iodide as iodide ion iii) Nucleophilic diaplacement of the chloride by the cyanide iv) Hydrolysis of the cyanide to an acid.
