ATP serves as a source of energy for various biochemical processes. γ-glutamyl phosphate is produced when a phosphate group is transferred to glutamic acid. Glutamine is produced by the reaction of glutamic acid with ammonium ion and water is also produced during this reaction as a byproduct.
