Explanation The cardiovascular system during prenatal development contains the umbilical arteries, umbilical veins, and the three vascular shunts. Vascular shunts are the circulatory shortcuts. They are of three types: 1. The ductus venous: The umbilical arteries carry the blood from the fetus to the placenta and the umbilical veins return the blood to the fetus. The fetus liver is immature and hence, the filtration is done by the liver of the mother.
