Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Gonads in male and female, derive from peritoneum. In embryonic development, both the male and female gonads develop homologous and later it begins to differentiate in anatomy and functions. They develop high in the abdominal cavity and in female fetal development it develops as ovaries near abdominopelvic cavity and scrotum (testes) in males. During fetal development the reproductive gonads are attached to the abdominopelvic cavity with a connective tissue named Gubernaculum. In male fetal development the gubernaculum grows down between the internal and external oblique muscles as the scrotum. In female fetal development it extends as vaginal process. The scrotum and vaginal process are still undistinguishable until the 10^th week of fetal development.
