Question
Chapter 26.4, Problem 8CC
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
All possible trans fats obtained due to partial hydrogenation of triolein should be drawn.
Concept introduction:
Hydrogenation is a process in which the addition of hydrogen takes place. In case of triglycerides the unsaturation is converted to saturated bonds upon hydrogenation. When all the double bonds present in the triglycerides are reduced to single bonds it is said that complete hydrogenation has taken place. If only few of the bonds are reduced means it is said that only partial hydrogenation has taken place.
To draw: all the possible trans fats that are obtained when triolein undergoes partial hydrogenation.
