Chapter 26, Problem 67P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The structure of a disaccharide formed from two mannose units joined by a 14α glycosidic linkage.

Concept introduction: The disaccharides formed from the monosaccharide units that are connected with each other through the glycosidic bonds. Glycosidic bonds are the type of covalent bonds. The two types of linkages are present in disaccharides.

Monosaccharide units are made from the biomolecules that comprise carbon, oxygen and hydrogen atoms. These molecules cannot be broken into the simpler compounds. The numbers of isomers are obtained from biomolecules due to the chiral nature of carbon atoms.

Can you please explain why structure 3 is the correct answer? I am having trouble understanding why it is aromatic. Can you also label molecules 1, 2, 4, and 5 with the correct nonaromatic or antiaromatic?
Q1. (a) Draw equations for homolytic and heterolytic cleavages of the N-H bond in NH3. Use curved arrows to show the electron movement. (b) Draw equations for homolytic and heterolytic cleavages of the N-H bond in NH4*. Use curved arrows to show the electron movement.
Can you please explain why answer 5 (V) is the correct answer?
