Introduction:

The gullet, stomach and the two intestines contain a nervous network called as the enteric nervous system. This enteric nervous system controls the movement, secretion, pressure in the gut wall, conditions in the lumen, and the blood flow of the digestive tract. About 100 million neurons are involved in carrying out these functions and they are independently active. In general, it is considered as a part of the autonomic nervous system.
