Yellow fever is a disease caused by yellow fever virus, it is an RNA (ribonucleic acid) virus of the Flavivirus family. It infects only humans, primates, and mosquitoes, where Aedes mosquitoes actas their carrier. It is mostly a disease of the tropical and subtropical region. Yellow fever can result in jaundice.

The Esp gene encodes a protein that alters the structure of the insulin receptor on osteoblasts and interferes with the binding of insulin to the receptor.
