Summary Introduction
Introduction: The thyroid gland is composed of two lobes, and it is considered as the largest adult endocrine gland in the human. The two lobes of the thyroid gland are connected by the isthmus. The thyroid gland is located in the neck, adjacent to the trachea and just beneath the larynx. It is composed of thyroid follicles, which are covered by follicular cells. The follicular cells secrete thyroid hormones (TH), such as triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4).
