Concept introduction:

Radical substitution reaction in which a hydrogen atom from the substrate is replaced by a radical atom proceeds through formation of radical intermediate in first step after abstraction of H atom. The H atom is predominantly abstracted from the carbon atoms which form a weak bond and forms the stable radical. Bonds involving allylic or benzylic C atoms tend to be weaker because of the resonance stabilization in the resulting alkyl radical.
