Concept introduction:

Immobility is the lack of movement of a limb or a major portion of the body. The causes of immobility are fracture, trauma, or post-surgical effects. Immobility causes several physiological changes in various organ systems of the affected person. The severity of the effects of inactivity depends on the extent of immobilization and its duration. Physiotherapy or passive exercise of the involved area of the body can minimize the effects of lack of voluntary movement.
