The three regions of the small intestine.

Introduction:

Food from the stomach enters into the small intestine wherein the maximum absorption of nutrients from food occurs. The small intestine is comprised of three regions:

1. Duodenum
2. Jejunum
3. Ileum

Out of the three segments, duodenum and jejunum form the major segment for the absorption of food while only some amount of absorption takes place in the ileum segment.
