To explain: Chronic venous insufficiency and the way by which it is presented clinically.
Concept introduction: Veins in the body play many important roles in circulation. The damaged vein will obstruct the circulatory system. Venous diseases are quite common. Varicose veins, superficial thrombophlebitis, and deep-vein thrombophlebitis are the diseases of veins.
Explanation of Solution
The medical condition in which the venous valves in the leg veins are not working properly and it becomes difficult for the blood to return to the heart from the legs is called the chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). CVI will result in the pooling of blood in these veins and it is called stasis.
The individuals having CVI report subjective symptoms that are typically bothersome in the early disease will be less severe in the middle phase of the disease and gets worsen in the advancing stage.
The signs and symptoms of CVI are given below:
- Swellings in the legs and ankles
- Itchy painful legs
- Feeling pain at the time of walking that stops with rest
- Brown-colored skin
- Leg ulcers
- Varicose veins
