The consistency of observations, 1H NMR spectrum of N,N-dimethylformamide, at room temperature and higher temperatures, is to be explained on the basis of the existence of a relatively large barrier to rotation about the carbon–nitrogen bond of DMF.

It is a well-known phenomenon that the variation in the 1H NMR chemical shifts with varying temperatures. At higher temperatures, the thermal fluctuations result in higher mobility of the atoms, subsequently decreasing the chemical-shift values of amide protons.
