The genus Frankia contains nitrogen fixing, filamentous bacteria. These bacteria live in symbiotic association with leguminous plants in the family of Fabaceae. This genus is characterized by multilocular sprongia and hyphae. These hyphae undergoes longitudinal and transverse divisions.
