Concept explainers
Interpretation: The following can be answered from the knowledge of mitochondrial shuttle transport systems.
Concept introduction: The mitochondrial shuttle transport systems are employed in the movement of reducing agents through the inner membrane of the mitochondria. The NADH molecule formed during the glycolysis process cannot pass through mitochondrial membrane, yet it can reduce other molecules which can go through the membrane thereby transferring the electron to the electron transport system. There are two types of mitochondrial shuttle transport systems in human body; one is the glycerol phosphate shuttle which is mainly present in the brown adipose tissues, while the second one is the malate aspartate shuttle which is present in rest of the human body.

Then, the product solution is analyzed and found to contain, 45% ethanol; 5% acetic acid; and 15% glycerin by weight. If the original charge is 500 kg, evaluate; e. The ratio of sucrose to water in the original charge (wt/wt). f. Moles of CO2 evolved. g. Maximum possible amount of ethanol that could be formed. h. Conversion efficiency. i. Per cent excess of excess reactant.
