Concept Introduction:

Coenzymes are essentially the additional organic molecules that facilitate the enzyme-catalyzed reaction via weak interactions such as hydrogen bonding. Once the product is formed theses coenzymes may go back to their original form unchanged.

Coenzymes serve to either donate groups such as hydride anion in cases of oxidation or accept groups that are removed from the substrate. For instance, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate acts as an electron acceptor and gets reduced NADPH.
