A peptic ulcer is a sore in the lining of the stomach, which is commonly due to the bacteria Helicobacter pylori. An ulcer in the stomach causesa gastric ulcer. An ulcer which occurs in the intestine is called the duodenal ulcer. The duodenal ulcer can be prevented by antacids, which reduce the delivery of the acid to the duodenum.
