Introduction:

As the implantation of the blastocyst occurs in the uterus of the mother, the trophoblast releases the proteolytic enzymes. This breaks down the tissue in the endometrial wall and provides nutrient to the developing embryo. The chorion forms the placenta, which facilitates the attachment of the fetus to the uterus. The nutrients are passed to the fetus through the tube known as the umbilical cord.
