Transposable element or transposon is a sequence of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) which has the ability to change its position within a genome and the process is referred to as transposition. Transposition could result in the modification of cell's genome size, genetic identity and also in genetic material duplication. Transposon elements are also referred to as the jumping genes because of their ability to change their location in the DNA sequence.
