The advantages and disadvantages of gene therapy.
Introduction:
Gene therapy uses genetic engineering to correct faulty genes in the body. Instead of using medication to alleviate the symptoms, the root cause of the disease is handled. Few of the patient’s cells are taken out. Vectors like viruses are used to deliver the functional gene in these cells. They are transplanted back into the patient where the new gene becomes part of the normal body machinery.
