The synthesis of a compound from its starting material can be done using many steps in organic chemistry.  In this a secondary alcohol is converted to carboxylic acid ester.  There are many route for the synthesis of the same.  But the one which gives more yield and economically favorable is chosen.  The secondary alcohol is oxidized using chromic acid to form a ketone.  The ketone is converted to carboxylic acid using haloform reaction.  Finally the carboxylic acid obtained undergoes esterification with alcohol to form carboxylic acid ester.
