Immunological surveillance is a monitoring process of the immune system to detect and destroy virally infected and neoplastically transformed cells in the body. The tumor antigens, that is, the novel cell surface components are displayed once a normal cell converts into the cancerous cell. These components are generally not displayed on the surface of normal cells.
