The potato gets hotter and the lake gets cooler as the attaining of equilibrium temperature is not possible.

Explanation of Solution

In natural world, heat flows from hotter object to colder object. But, if heat naturally flowed from cold objects to hotter ones, the hot potato that is put into the large cold body of water gets hotter as the heat from the cold lake flows into the potato and the lake become cooler.

The idea of equilibrium state is not applicable as the potato continues to get hotter and the lake gets cooler. The temperature change for the lake will not be much as it is very much larger than the potato.

Conclusion:

Therefore, the temperature of the potato gets hotter and the lake gets cooler as the attaining of equilibrium temperature is not possible.
