Chapter 2.2, Problem 11EIQ
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Serotonin is also an inhibitory neurotransmitter. Normally, serotonin is called a monoamine neurotransmitter. It is mostly present in the brain and blood platelets and made from the essential amino acid called tryptophan. Serotonin contains an enzyme called monoamine oxidase (MAO) that helps to break down the neurotransmitters into inactive chemicals, so it avoids the transmitter to become too harmful levels. Metabotropic synapses use serotonin.
