Introduction:
Monophyletic group is a group of organisms that consists of all the descendants of a common ancestor. They tend to have almost similar genetic composition. Horizontal gene transfer is the phenomenon in which an organism incorporates genetic material from another organism without being the offspring of that organism. When horizontal gene transfer occurs, not all of the genes in a species were inherited from the common ancestor, this meddles the concept of monophyletic groups.
