The five general classes of the blood vessels include arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules and veins. The smallest diameter blood vessels are called as the arterioles. The movement and the circulation of the blood take place from arterioles to the capillaries. The venules are formed from the capillaries, which join to form the veins in the body.

The different types of the blood vessels include the following:
- 1. Arteries: They regulate the flow of the blood away from the heart. For example: pulmonary arteries and systemic arteries.
- 2. Arterioles: They are present in the peripheral tissues and the diameter of the vessels in less as compared to the arteries.
- 3. Capillaries: They include the network of blood vessels where the diffusion of ions takes place between the blood and the interstitial fluid.
- 4. Venules: The blood enters into the small venules from the capillaries.
- 5. Veins: The venules joins to form the larger veins.
