The similarity between oxidation of zinc and oxidation of aluminium.

Answer to Problem 16RQ
The similarity between zinc and aluminium form water insoluble oxides on oxidation. The oxides form coating and prevent further oxidation.
Explanation of Solution
The metals undergo oxidation. In an oxidation reaction, the metal loses electrons.
The metals undergo oxidation in presence of oxygen and water (moisture). This process deteriorates the metal and is known as corrosion.
The metals on oxidation form oxides. The zinc and aluminium metals form a water-insoluble oxide. These oxides form a layer on the surface of the metal. It is a protective layer and it prevents further oxidation/corrosion of the metal.
Conclusion:
Therefore, the similarity between zinc and aluminium form water insoluble oxides on oxidation. The oxides form coating and prevent further oxidation.
