Interpretation:
The function of the ribosomal P-site in protein synthesis by translation has to be determined.
Concept Introduction:
The ribosomes are the main organelles at which protein synthesis occurs. They are composed of two different subunits that attach themselves to the messenger RNA. In the protein synthesis, simultaneous action of number of ribosomes on single mRNA takes place. The complex formed by the ribosomes with single mRNA is known as polyribosomes. Each ribosome unit synthesizes one copy of protein encoded by mRNA
There are two tRNA binding sites at the RNA namely the peptidyl site called as the P-site and A site.
A site binds to the amino acyl-tRNA part that provides the space for the next amino acid to be added to the polypeptide chain.
