Interpretation:

The sequence of anticodon corresponding to the codon 5′-AUG-3′ present on messenger RNA has to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

A set of three nucleotides that serves as a unique code for each of the amino acids is termed as a codon. Nirenberg and H.J. Matthaei discovered in 1961 that translation of a poly uracil RNA sequence that had AAA as anticodon resulted in the synthesis of amino acid phenylalanine. Thus it was inferred that the triplet UUU is present as the codon on the messenger RNA and would code for amino acid phenylalanine.
