Question
Chapter 20.10, Problem 47AYP
Summary Introduction
To analyze:
The effect of temperature on heart rate.
Introduction:
The cardiac cycle begins with an action potential generated in the muscle near the atria of the heart. This region of the heart is called the sinoatrial node (SA node). The electrical impulse initiates the contraction of muscles. The action potential excites the right atrium, and then it is conducted through the Bachmann’s bundle (interatrial tract) towards the left atria.

How does a large amount of salt in the diet lead to an increase in blood pressure?
8-11. During each heartbeat, the blood from the heart is ejected into the aorta
and the pulmonary artery. Since the blood is accelerated during this
part of the heartbeat, a force in the opposite direction is exerted on
the rest of the body. If a person is placed on a sensitive scale (or
other force-measuring device), this reaction force can be measured.
An instrument based on this principle is called the ballistocardiograph.
Discuss the type of information that might be obtained from measure-
ments with a ballistocardiograph, and estimate the magnitude of the
forces measured by this instrument.
What occurs in the body when you perform Valsalva Maneuver? How does this affect blood circulation?
