IP address:

  • IP (Internet Protocol) address is a numeric label assigned to the device for the unique identification in the network that uses the internet protocol for communication.
  • IP address is composed of network address and host number.
    • Network address is used to identify the particular network.
    • Host number is used to identify the device in the network.
  • IP address is a 32 bit (4 bytes) binary number and each byte is separated by the dots.
  • Each byte represents the group of 8 bits and it ranges from 0 to 255.

Format:

  • “a” is called an octet.
  • It must be a decimal value between 0 and 255.
  • The octets are divided by periods. It consists of three periods and four octets.
