The top 25 business schools, as determined by reputation, student selectivity, placement success, and graduation rate, are listed in the table. For each school, three variables were measured: (1) GMAT score for the typical incoming student; (2) student acceptance rate (percentage accepted of all students who applied); and (3) starting salary of the typical graduating student.

In determining the best companies to work for, a number of variables are considered, including size, average annual pay, and employee turnover rate. Moreover, employee surveys are conducted to assess aspects of the organization's culture, such as trust and openness to change. In an attempt to determine what affects turnover rate, a sample of 33 companies was randomly selected, and data were collected on the average annual bonus and turnover rate (%) for 2008. In addition, a questionnaire was administered to the employees of each company to arrive at a trust index (measured on a scale of 0-100). Below are the multiple regression results.

- Most engaged couples expect or at least hope that they will have high levels of marital satisfaction. However, because 54% of first marriages end in divorce, social scientists have begun investigating influences on marital satisfaction. (Data Source: National Center for Health Statistics.) A counseling psychologist sets out to look at the role of having children in relationship longevity. She decides to measure marital satisfaction in a group of couples with children and a group of childless couples. She chooses the Marital Satisfaction Inventory, because it refers to "partner" and "relationship" rather than "spouse" and "marriage," which makes it useful for research with both traditional and nontraditional couples. Higher scores on the Marital Satisfaction Inventory indicate greater satisfaction. Assume that these scores are normally distributed. A sample of 39 couples with children scored an average of 51.1 with a sample standard deviation of 9.2 on the Marital Satisfaction…arrow_forwardMost engaged couples expect or at least hope that they will have high levels of marital satisfaction. - Is the Stock Market Independent? The Standard and Poor 500 (S&P 500) is a weighted average of the stocks for 500 large companies in the United States. It is commonly used as a measure of the overall performance of the US stock market. Between January 1, 2009 and January 1, 2012, the S&P 500 increased for 423 of the 756 days that the stock market was open. We will investigate whether changes to the S&P 500 are independent from day to day. This is important, because if changes are not independent, we should be able to use the performance on the current day to help predict performance on the next day. (a) What is the probability that the S&P 500 increased on a randomly selected market day between January 1, 2009 and January 1, 2012?Round your answer to four decimal places.
