Summary Introduction

To determine: The shrinking of muscles after sustaining a leg fracture.

Introduction: The tendons are the connective tissue that attaches muscle to the bone. They help in the movement of the limbs and various parts of the body. The severing of tendon can result in the tear. When muscles contract the tendons pull the bones to result in the movement like lifting a finger, arm or leg.

Explanation of Solution

The skeletal muscles along with the connective tissues like tendons, aponeurosis and so on help to move bones and associated skeletal muscles. The skeletal muscles help in maintaining the body posture and holding the position of the body. The muscles of the body constantly relax and contract to allow the movement of the skeletal system along with the muscular system.

When the muscles are in an inactive state for a very long time then the muscles remain in the state of contraction. This is also called muscle wasting and usually occurs due to lack of activity. The decrease in the muscle bulk is usually reflected as a decrease in muscle force.

Preoperative Diagnosis: Torn medial meniscus, left knee Postoperative Diagnosis: Combination horizontal cleavage tear/flap tear, posterior horn, medial meniscus, left knee. Operation: Arthroscopic subtotal medial meniscectomy, left knee Anesthetic: General endotracheal Description of Procedure: The patient was placed on the operating table in the supine position and general endotracheal anesthesia was administered. After an adequate level of anesthesia was achieved, the patient's left lower extremity was prepped with Betadine scrubbing solution, then draped in a sterile manner. Several sites were then infiltrated with 1% Xylocaine solution with Epinephrine to help control bleeding from stab wounds to be made at these sites. These stab wounds were made anterolaterally at the level of the superior pole of the patella for insertion of an irrigation catheter into the suprapatellar pouch area, anterolaterally at the level of the joint line for insertion of the scope and anteromedially at…
