Summary Introduction

Introduction: pH is defined as the negative logarithm of H⁺ ion concentration. There is an inverse relationship between the pH and the number of H⁺ ions present. When there is more H⁺ ion present, the pH of the solution is low. It means the substance is acidic. When there are less H⁺ ions present, the pH of the solution becomes high. It means the substance is basic. The neutral substance have no presence of H⁺ ions, that is why their pH is neutral and around 7 on the pH scale.
