1. It is very important to use the correct level of formality when greeting people from another culture because through the formality we demonstrate respect, courtesy and good manners to them. Through formality we also demonstrate to the people that we care about them and that we value their culture and their norms.
2. The normal reaction would be to step away just as we normally do. In Latin America the personal space is not a big issue. People tend to be close but not in the United States. Knowing this, it will help but to accept it and react normal to it will take a long time. Sometimes it is best to talk about it with the people so that both cultures are aware of it.
3. Talking about personal space with members of my community who are from other culture, I found out that their feelings about personal space is similar to that of the Latin American countries. They tend to be closer and personal space is not as important to them as it is important here in the United States.
